(please discourage phone calls during your weekend - it may disrupt your ability to concentrate on each other and thereby gain the best from it.)

Bishop Woodford House is a purpose built retreat and conference centre opened in 1973 in the ancient cathedral city of Ely. It is just a few minutes walk from the beautiful cathedral. It is located in the garden of the former Ely theological College and is an oasis of peace and tranquillity.

The bedrooms all have washbasins and some are en-suite. There are plenty of bath or shower rooms and toilets near the rooms.

The house prides itself in the hospitality it offers.

It’s garden provides areas of relative privacy and peace.

Getting There

Public Transport

The House is about half a mile northeast of the main railway station in Ely. The station has good services from London, the Midlands and the North. From the station building go right to reach the nearest road (Bridge Road/Station Road) and then go left. Then go straight on at the mini roundabout (to right of Angel House) towards the city centre.  The road climbs towards the next mini roundabout which is just after the start of the 20 mph limit, where you go left (signed for Cathedral and Car Parks).  Bishop Woodford House is on the left after passing Kings School (at the end of the long brick wall).

Car

The house is situated in Ely near to the cathedral and railway station (see public transport directions).  The easiest route from the A1(M) southbound is to exit at junction 14 onto the A14.  After about 17 miles, the A14 joins the end of the M11. Keep left at this point to stay on the A14.  If coming from the south on the M11 come to this same junction (14) and keep left to join the A14 signposted for Newmarket and Ely. Leave the A14 at junction 33 to join the A10 towards Ely (keep left). After a little over 13 miles you come to a roundabout where the A10 meets the A142. Go straight on (2nd exit) signed for Ely. In about 0.7 of a mile there is a filling station on the left, turn right just beyond it into Barton Road (signed for Cathedral Car Parks). The house is on the right after the bend in the road (at no-entry signs) and the Junior School entrance.
