The Hayes was originally built in the 1860s as a large family home and is set in acres of parkland next to open Derbyshire countryside.  

It became a conference centre in 1910 and has been considerably developed since.

We are usually accommodated in Lakeside, which offers modern en-suite rooms and every facility needed for an excellent weekend.

Getting There

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is Alfreton on the line between Sheffield and Nottingham/Leicester.  It is about 3 miles from the Centre. It is served by an hourly Liverpool to Norwich service and a local Leeds to Langley Mill service. Taxis can be pre-booked, which is cheaper than hiring at the station.  Amber Taxis (tel. 01773 836100) are near the station.

There is a four per hour bus service from Derby Corporation St to Mansfield (branded the nines, nos. 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3) that stops near the end of Hayes Lane (see Car directions below).  Its starting point is about 0.7 mile walk from Derby Railway Station.

Car

The Hayes is about 1.5 miles south of the junction between A61 south of Chesterfield and the A38 Derby to Mansfield road. This junction is 3.5 miles west of junction 28 of the M1 (signed for A38 Derby) and 13 miles north of Derby (via A61 and A38). From this junction (signed for A61 Chesterfield and Services), head south (left coming from the M1) following signs for the Services and B6179 Swanwick. After 0.9 mile, at a set of lights, turn left into The Green (between pub and church). Continue on this road for 0.3 mile then fork right into Hayes Lane (there’s a small sign for Conference Centre).  After 0.1 mile you’ll be in The Hayes grounds.  Follow signs to the parking at Lakeside (keep right) unless advised otherwise.
